It’s getting colder outside and that’s why this next drink in our how to make series, will make for the most perfect winter warmer. Gingerbread hot chocolate is a real classic and makes for a cosy night in this winter.

Ingredients you’ll need to make gingerbread hot chocolate

  • You will need (ingredients list + kitchen utensils, etc.)
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • ⅛ ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups (480ml) milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • (Optional) mini marshmallows, gingerbread men and/or whipped cream – to serve 


How to make gingerbread hot chocolate

Follow these quick and simple steps on how to make gingerbread hot chocolate and you’ll have the perfect winter warmer.

  • Add 3 tbsp cocoa powder to the saucepan
  • Add 3 tbsp of brown sugar to the saucepan
  • Add a pinch of salt to the saucepan
  • Add 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • Add 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Add 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • Add 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Add ½ tsp vanilla essence 
  • Gradually add the milk, whisking as you go, until there are no lumps of cocoa powder in the mixture
  • Bring to a simmer, being careful not to boil, stir frequently 
  • Pour into your glass or mug add, gingerbread, marshmallows and whipped cream if you wish, and enjoy
